UP IAM is authorized to perform operational monitoring - evaluating the air pollution in the area of the Port of Koper. According to the contract "Air Quality Monitoring in the Port of Koper," in 2010 we bought and set the reference meter LECKEL. With this meter daily concentrations of particulate matter are measured.
UP IAM carries out systematic measurements of airborne dust in the area of the port of Koper, performed on behalf of the Port of Koper, which wants the information collected to improve their procedures and measures to prevent air pollution. Currently we measure air quality in the Port at four sites. On three locations, samplers are positioned to allow us to measure the levels of dust in the air, following the gravimetric method. In the fourth location a mobile meteorological station is positioned, which monitors weather conditions and air quality. Automated System for Mobile meteorological stations allows us to be 24 hours a day collecting data on air quality and weather conditions in the port area.
Air pollution measurements are carried out for many years, but research shows that people are insufficiently aware of the types and concentrations of air pollution in the environment where we live and work. With the intention to inform the local population about air pollution, ozone and current weather conditions, UP IAM, in cooperation with the municipality of Koper and the Agency for the Environment, started building a system for presentation of meteorological information and data on air pollution in the Koper area.
Currently, a screen is placed in the parking lot of the market and on UP FAMNIT. The data are presented on the screen in graphical and numerical form with indication of maximum value, as defined by the European Union. All these data provide good quality and especially up to date information on the state of the atmosphere in Koper.
